Pete Namlook
4Voice II
This album was received, and listened to, before all others in this issue yet it’s actually the last review to be inserted. Why? Because I’ve had the thing blasting away in my car and I’ve been unwilling to relinquish my early morning and late evening fixes to allow an in- house review to take place!

This CD is quite simply Namlook at his imperious best - well, I hope it is, because if he’s done much better then I’m missing out on some sensational music! Most notable are the strong EM elements. Pulsing rhythms, often sequentially based, litter the tracks and the sucker punch lies in the superb melodies which often infuse each piece. From the magnificent pulsations of ‘The Driver’ to the delicious counterpoint of ‘Anemra’ there’s highpoints in each track, however the highlight is reserved for the final piece, catchily titled ‘New York, 25th November 2089’. Yes, the mesmeric sequencing and “bomb the bass-ics” are there aplenty, but that’s not the trump card. I’ve often said that I like synths to sound like synths and here the fantastic and infectious lead line is picked out on the most searing & mutating synth vox this side of Floyd’s ‘Welcome to the Machine‘. It’s awesome, and so is the rest of the CD. Buy without reservation. (GG)
