Tim Story Abridged

Subtitled 'Selected Miniatures 1979-1986', this is a compilation from 5 of Tim's previous albums, except for one track which is previously unreleased. Being a novice to Tim's music, it's interesting to hear how his sound developed through the 80's. The compilation is well thought out, and those familiar with Tim's music will not be surprised to find that the bulk of the tracks are stylish piano based works, fleshed out with synthesiser textures. It's a tried and trusted technique which Tim has mastered to perfection and admirers of music for relaxation will be in their element. I also liked the "spacier" moments on the album, especially pieces from 'Threads'(1980) and 'In Another Country'(1985). The track 'Careen' is a superbly atmospheric mixture of synthesised layers. The unreleased track 'Drawn by Hand' rounds the album off with solo piano picking out a romantic theme. (GG)
