Soft undulating pads give an appropriately cosmic beginning to 'Mapping the Heavens'. Half heard vocal samples come and go giving it all a rather dreamy feel. On 'Distant Signals' a tinkling sequence breaks through waves of sound complimented perfectly by a lovely lazy rhythm which just did enough to get my feet tapping but without disturbing the relaxed mood already developed. 'Liquid Cosmos' combines a slow melodic loop, swelling pads and another nice slow rhythm. It's all very chilled and extremely pleasant. 'A Place of Peace' is actually quite a moody number courtesy of a deep bass pulse which emerges from soft electronic colouring. It slowly develops and high hat detail is added.

'Outward Bound' increases in pace becoming quite the most energetic number so far. There is a slow down in the middle but the rhythms return with added vigour and a rather mean edge. The best track on the CD. 'Centauri Memories' is a short but beautifully melodic interlude. 'Requiem for C.S.' is a suitably mournful piece dedicated to the late Carl Sagan. Melodic melancholy pads weave their spell whilst vocal samples can just be heard way down in the mix. 'Lunar Sunrise' follows a similar pattern.

'Portal Full of Stars' begins with twittering sci fi effects which are joined by a slow sequence then a piano melody. Its very relaxing stuff. 'Plasma Cloud' is an excellent cosmic trip. Just close your eyes and float. 'No Mans Land' is something of a chugger with easy to get on with slow rhythms. This is a very enjoyable album that has enough activity to stop the attention wandering but at the same time is a very tranquil listen. My only minor criticism would be the slight over use of NASA type samples. (DL)

Nederlandstalige versie

Zachte golvende tapijtjes geven een vrij kosmisch begin aan "Mapping the Heavens". Half hoorbare stemmen komen en gaan en geven een dromerig gevoel. Op "Distant Signals" breekt een twinkelende sequence door de geluidsgolven, perfect bijgestaan door een mooi traag ritme hetwelk juist mijn voeten in beweging zette, zonder de opgebouwde rust te verstoren.

"Liquid Cosmos" combineert een trage melodische loop en aanvullende paden en andere mooie trage ritmes. Heel erg aangenaam en prettig. "A Place of Peace" is een vrij gevoelig nummer met een diepe baspuls die tevoorschijn komt uit allerlei elektronische klanken. Er is een trage opbouw en er verschijnt een hihat patroontje. "Outward Bound" verhoogt de spanning en wordt het meest energieke nummer tot nu toe. Het bouwt even af rond de helft maar dan komen de ritmes terug, zelfs met een gemeen kantje. De beste track van de CD.
