Lucifaere
One Amongst the Fallen
Welcome once again to the world of Lucifaere. 'The Day of the Fox' begins with metallic crashes and the sound of a flute. A faint angelic voice can just be heard as a brace of typical Kirkwood sequences start to weave their magic. These really wouldn't have been out of place on any of his early albums. The sound of crows calling out banishes the sequences and we enter a strange windswept world. A frantic rhythm emerges and whilst developing a mysterious lead line casts its spell.

The initial sequence then returns to join the rhythm and the music draws you in deeper in a way that only Lucifaere knows how. Another faint female voice and anvil sound heralds a change in the rhythm which is accompanied by a beautiful melody played on flutey synth.. 'A Gentle Brush of Wings' uses carefully selected noises and effects to build up images of a strange mist shrouded land. Bird song can be heard and another early Kirkwood sequence issues forth with an infectious shuffling rhythm laid over the top. A second rhythm of the tabla variety is added which then mingles with another sequence. We are taken back to the bird song to finish. 'Spirit of the Sands' brings up images of shifting dunes and heat hazes. Rasping rhythms are added to by a sequence which sounds a like dripping water. A second more aggressive 'into battle' sequence is then added. An excellent melody soars over the top, the sequence dies and the rhythm intensifies, superb stuff!

Female singing / chanting in some strange language enters momentarily but is cut short as a large bell rings out. The track is then driven forward at an even faster pace. Proceedings are slowed down slightly as another chant comes in and a deep bass line starts to rumble underneath. Things descend back into the swamp and the noise of some vast beast can be heard. Another rhythm starts up and exquisite sounds mingle with a classic Kirkwood sequence but again things aren't left to run too long before we get a sudden change of mood back to deeply atmospheric realms which take us to the end of another slice of Lucifaere brilliance.
