Tangerine Dream
Ambient Monkeys
The music on this CD was used as the interval music during the recent live gigs. Though it only registers as a single seamless track, it is actually credited as 13 separate pieces. And what an unusual release this is! The most striking characteristic is the ever present battery of "atmospherics" which include birdsong, rain, thunder, waves, trains, and general jungle monkey business. Musically it's a mixed bag too with expected rhythmic chuggers rubbing shoulders with more classical offerings including three penned by Messrs Bach, Handel and Mozart. However, it's the way the whole thing is mixed which will possibly surprise most. It is aimed at being an ambient trip and consequently the aforementioned atmospherics are placed well forward in the mix, leaving the music to languish in the background. The result is certainly unexpected and perhaps worth a go for this alone. Musically it doesn't represent any sort of peak, but I'm sure curiosity will get the best of many of you. (GG)
