Holle Mangler Annihilation on Earth

Holle is a worried fellow. The CD sleeve depicts various horrors including a seal being graphically clubbed to death and other environmental traumas. Citing his influences as heavy/thrash metal you could be forgiven for expecting a blitzkrieg of agonising sound. Not so. Despite the images of destruction and despair this is a well structured and melodically impressive set. Yet it retains powerful sections but cleverly uses light and shade to avoid boredom. Thematically impressive, Mangler also employs a battery of sound effects and treatments and it is not surprising that he is building up quite a following. The album also features some impressive guitar courtesy of Gerd Lubos (aka Strange Inside). An intriguing release and well worth investigating. One to watch. (Steve Roberts)
