If you want the ultimate in cosmic space trips then buy this album. Listening to it would make it possible to drift anywhere you wanted never mind how bizarre. There are a plethora of ‘floating’ albums out there which have their spacey sounding moments but none like this where the majority of it is filled with subtle cosmic effects and other worldly vistas. This guy should make a fortune. Surely no other music would be necessary for those atmospheric moments in any big budget sci fi film ever again, this has everything. Warbling synth drones and solar winds get our journey underway with ‘Departure’. Gentle bass pulses can be heard whilst swirls of sound bubble to the surface. Half way in the sound gets sparser and darker as if we are leaving the solar system behind and are heading for the vast blackness of deep space.

‘Timelapse’ has what sounds like alien insects over metallic resonances. The insects quickly fade away and the washes of sound grow more intense as a sequence pulsates away deep in the mix. We drift into ‘Lifecycle’, where ethereal sounds sigh from the speakers creating a sparse, cold and incredibly lonely expanse. Two minutes in and a sequence develops. Its as if we have now entered a more active part of the universe, a nebula perhaps. This is only temporary however as we soon return to the region of nothingness. ‘Visitation’ is initially even more atmospheric and desolate but warmer pads are used after the half way mark, as if looking out of the window and seeing something of great beauty. ‘Descent’ starts with a thunderstorm as we enter the atmosphere of one of the planets scheduled for our journey. A sequence begins and makes me thing of an aquatic world with the calm under the water contrasting with the violence of the atmosphere above. ‘Mindwalking’ sounds as if we have reached land with massive waves crashing on the cliffs. Another gentle sequence swirls away and as it begins to dominate calm descends. More cosmic warbles can be heard and a second sequence develops. We enter the beginning section of ‘Near Earth’ and it is back to the vastness of space but this time with a warmer glow as we near home. (DL)
