Optical Image
Another Treasure Point
Tom Habes returns to his Optical Image guise to release this follow up to his debut album ‘Treasure Point. It kicks off in fine style with ‘Sequences’, a well balanced piece with plenty of electronic pulsations and an enjoyable main theme. ‘Discovery’ is a mainstream flutey synth offering very reminiscent of Denis Hart, while ‘Introspection’ is a quality slab of moodier EM. ‘Art of an Era Part II’ continues the stylish and sophisticated angle with a delicious melody, while ‘Act of Innocence’ keeps the tempo laid back with a highly polished presentation of soothing pads and subtle motifs. ‘Human Impact’ is a drama filled collection of punchy rhythms, sequences and synth embellishments while ‘Gravity’ features some excellent complex sequencing. The final piece ‘Segregation’ is a showcase for Tom Habes’s compositional talents, with a classical approach creating a mixture of melody and grace. To me this is a vast improvement on Tom Habes’ eponymous offerings - an album which is found wanting in very few departments. (GG)
