John Mark
Austria
Recorded in September '94, this album looks as if it could have been sponsored by the Austrian tourist board. This is an easy album to get on with because it doesn't set out to challenge the listener in any way. The main ingredient is melody which is served up in a variety of guises. There are uptempo synth led themes such as on 'Dance to Happiness', 'Come In' and the 'See You in Austria', while there are also more grandiose piano offerings such as 'Remember' and 'Love' which superficially are perhaps a bit treacly but perseverance is recommended. The opener 'Sadness' sets the scene well with strident percussion and well judged leads, while 'In My Heart' is another well constructed outing featuring many quality elements. The more classically minded will enjoy 'My Life' though they may not appreciate the frenetic 'Tekkno Kid' as much. All in all a very varied and well produced album which has something for everyone except perhaps those seeking food-for-thought.(GG)
