Boots & Aerts & Heijden
Live in Sweden
Ron Boots, Kees Aerts and Harold van der Heijden, collectively known as BAH!, have released this limited edition CD-R of their concert in Sweden at the beginning of June. Yes, June this year! Say what you like about CD-R but how else would you get your hands on a top notch recording of a concert within 3 months of it happening? And believe me, this is a concert worth having - my only regret is that I missed it. Advertised as being “just how it sounded in Sweden” we are treated to a collection of sequenced succulents which ooze confidence. Messrs Aerts and Heijden provide stirling accompaniment on synthesisers, drums and percussion however be in no doubt that this is Ron Boots’ party and fans of his sublime rhythmical approach will find plenty to whet the appetite. Opening with laid back assurety, ‘Detachment’ serves up 13 minutes of hypnotic grooves which toy with suggested melody. ‘Among the Stars’ takes us the the chill-out zone with effects, whispy pads and the merest suggestion of rhythm. ‘Smiles’ darts into life with uptempo sequencing and presents 5 minutes of delightful synth-play. ‘Breath’ returns to the subliminal approach, while ‘Below Paradise’ gives more opportunity for satisfying lead motifs to emerge. Ron even speaks during the final stages of the concert - anyone know why he mentions “Mr Dyson” during the excellent final track? Ron Boots and friends in top form, a live venue to light the spark, a freshly minted CD-R to savour the performance. You know it makes sense. (GG)
