Band of Fire
This one came completely out of the blue but if it was possible to wear out a CD through playing it too much, this one would be a goner. Deep resonating bass rumbles give the opening few minutes a very ominous feel. You know the sort of thing, like on a film where someone is creeping round somewhere they really shouldn’t be and you just know the alien that is slowly creeping up from behind is about to turn them into tripe.

At three minutes a fantastic bass drum loop (not remotely dance) starts its cyclical menacing progression, hitting the bull's-eye, pure perfection. There is almost a vocal quality to the accompanying snare which gives the track depth. A great swirl of sound is created in the background and slow subtle melodies mesmerize under the beat. At six and a half minutes a stunning, slightly metallic sequence further adds to the excitement.

Then a minute later comes another lead line but it is really the rhythm and sequence which steal the show. The CD is designed for continuous play and that is virtually what I did for a whole day. Rather left me like a punch drunk zombi but as my friends will tell you, this is my favourite state. Very powerful stuff, pump up the volume and clear your mind. Its about as subtle an episode of Bottom, just how I like it! Now I have heard this band I will be stocking more of their stuff. (DL)
