Ian Boddy Drones |
This is the fourth of Ian's library discs. Library discs are designed to be used by TV and film companies in accompanying their visuals. As such they should capture moods, emotions etc. The tracks tend to be relatively short. This is particularly true in this case with them all being between the one and just over two minute mark. As the title of the CD suggests the pieces are drone based but its the sub title that sums it up better. "A spine tingling collection of dark and light drones".
Most of the pieces are in fact of the dark variety and even though there isn't any rhythmic element to them there is loads going on with pads swirling around each other or seeped in effects. There is also a lot of little detail which adds to the mood greatly. The album reminded me very much of some of Robert Rich's darker works especially the one he did with Lustmord 'Stalker'. To give you a bit more of an idea each track title is labelled with a particular description such as; 'Sinister', 'Treacherous', 'Bleak' , 'Tense' etc etc. Even though each track is separate they tend to provide one long listening experience and follow on from each other quite naturally. Ian Boddy completists will want this in their collection but it is also highly recommended for fans of weird dark stuff- I loved it. (DL)
