(Excerpt from track 'Wings (Breakout Version)')
CDR release, packaging is a bit ropey, but the music is far from ropey. It's one of those "lost tapes / rare tracks / bits and pieces which were lying around" compilations, though unusually some of the tracks are bang-up-to-date while the earliest is from 1987. These sorts of albums can be rather a chore, wading through material which is clearly inferior to later music which sparked interest in the first place. However, here you'll find Driftin' Thoughts serving up a very appetising set of pulsating EM tracks with hardly bad moment to be found.

The recent tracks are executed with the precision and sequential energy we have now come to expect. Mr Hildebrandt really does know how to meld together modern dance beats and EM oriented sequences. "Let me take you on a trip" is the tempting invitation for track 2 'Wings', then the dance rhythm bursts forth and the sequencing begins. Grandiose choral interludes punctuate the piece, together which more voice samples with more than a hint of "tongue in cheek", but it's great stuff and difficult not to like. The earlier pieces don't disappoint either. Mainly penned when the flutey synth was king— and not a track went by without a babbling brook, rainfall, or sea surf hitting the shore—here we are presented with electronic rhythmics and deft melodies which belie their age.

Yes, this is 74 minutes of rocking EM. If you like the other DT albums, you'll like this. I still don't get where the name Driftin' Thoughts comes from however! (GG)
