'The Elements' is a library disc. This means that it is designed to be used by film, TV and other media companies. The track numbers and running time mentioned above do not include the additional track edits that are also always included on such releases. The CD is split into four sections, one for each element: Air, Earth, Fire and Water. The Air tracks are mainly ethereal with fairly subtle melodies, the main thrust being on atmosphere though there is also a rather unsettling mood created on one of the tracks and another is gently rhythmic, like insects darting this way and that. The Earth section covers all ends of the spectrum from angelic to dark and subterranean via infectious grooves. The Fire tracks on the other hand are, on the whole, more ominous and edgy. Ambient numbers sit alongside powerful, almost apocalyptic tracks that pack a real punch. 'Firestorm' especially is a real Boddy classic that would be a show stopping encore piece! For the most part the Water selection overflows with tranquil shimmering beauty- though there is the odd darker moment as on 'Storm Surge' when things develop a decidedly malevolent feel. Overall though, just lie back and chill out. This is a gorgeous album that works more than any other of his library disc releases as a very worthy album in its own right. An excellent listening experience from beginning to end. (DL)
