'Trance' gives us excitement right from the word go as little melodic sequencer runs battle against each other beneath a fantastic lead line. It got me punching the air in joy and turning up the volume. Sure, it's the sort of thing that would go down just as well in a club as in your living room but if you like music that let's rip, has a fantastic 'tune' and is just bloody good fun you must give it a go. 'Waves of Light' is almost as powerful as the previous track as an avalanche of notes spew from the speakers in a wonderful melodic cascade. The sound of waves and seabirds gets 'Ocean Love' underway. This is a real slowing of the pace as gentle piano weaves a beautiful spell. What a contrast - things don't get more delicate than this.
'Joy' cranks up the sequencer again with a lovely staccato melody bouncing over the pulsations. This guy knows how to write music that stays in the head and that you could actually hum. 'Expansion' again deploys the sequencer but this time it's deep and rumbling acting as a perfect base for melody to dart this way and that over the top in a similar way to 'Magic Fly' by Space but also with loads of early Jarre influences in there. Actually as the track progresses it becomes more and more a dead ringer for him. Again it's absolutely fantastic. 'Sinchrony' uses a rumbling bass sequence as backing for yet another superb lead line which bounces along with an understated rhythm quite beautifully. The track just gets better as a second lead line strikes up alongside the first. A wonderful sequencer dominated interlude in the middle of the track adds that extra bit of class. 'Power of Dance' has a rather majestic beginning- then thunder effects as the sequences strike up. We are back to Jarre territory. In then come the drums but they aren't really what I would call dancy just a little additional structure round which the melodies weave - and what melodies! 'X-Trance' is quite a stripped down bouncy little number.
'Travel in Time' strikes up a no nonsense beat. Little melodic motifs and a rapid sequence create a wonderful spell but then fade away as gorgeous soft ethereal pads provide a marked contrast, an interlude I suppose. It all goes to make the syncopations seem even more effective on their return though. I could again go on about the quality of the lead lines but I've said it all already in the previous tracks. The interest is kept high throughout, as there are many a change in pace and other twists and turns as we go. 'Plai Romanesc' is the shortest track at just over two minutes and acts as a 'cooling down' number as it is one of only two rhythmless tracks on the album. This time the main feature is an Eastern tinged flutey synth. A lovely way to finish. (DL)
