Crown Invisible
CI 4: Cinema
Compact Disc / 6 tracks / 46:17 mins

Nice to see another Crown Invisible release fall through the letterbox. In keeping with the previous releases the packaging is simplistic, akin to a CD single, but has a professional air. And it looks to be a numbered limited edition of 1500. Also in keeping with previous CI albums the track titles keep you on your toes, giving the impression of different version numbers of the same theme, and subtitled with names or, for the opener, what looks like a track timing. 'V 16 (1:30)', is 6.47 mins worth of smooth electronics, a sumptuous beat and a melodic riff which is infectious and cajoling. It's great stuff, real summer music for playing in the car.

'V 15 (Panic)' continues the chugging style, supplemented by deep pads and arpeggiating detail. An edgier piece but still commercially appealing. 'V 12 (Medical Mix)' re-presents an infectious melody, this time picked out in symphonic style. 'V8 ( Dark Arc Mix) develops the melody further, annotating it with immaculately played piano. The influence of early Enigma, mainly portrayed in the rhythm, is evident but with these credentials it cannot fail to impress. This is 9 mins of mega grooves and the choicest themes. 'V 7 (Y Mix)' opens with repeated, simplistic, chords which fad to the 3 min mark, then to be rekindled with a surge of supplemental electronics which carry the same base theme to a close. Finally 'V 17 (CI Pastoral)' is a piano led piece with some beguiling electronic textures, this wouldn't sound out of place on Schmoelling's reissue of 'White Out'. Perhaps my favourite track from the 6.

If you haven't heard CI before, just buy this and hear what you've been missing. (GG)
