We begin with the title track and straight off one person comes to mind- Klaus Schulze from his 'Mirage' period. If you thought 'Berlin Impressions Vol 3' was retro you should hear this! That album probably had more in common with Tangerine Dream but this one, especially the opening number, is closer to Schulze. A high register crystalline tinkling sequence sparkles and slowly mutates from one similar pattern to the next over lovely soft cosmic drones. More melodic pads are layered over the top from time to time acting like slow lead lines. In the eleventh minute the sequence fades completely away and we are left in a wonderful state of atmospheric drift, the sounds chosen being exquisite.

In the twentieth minute things take a darker turn and close on the heals of this change another excellent sequence makes an entrance, cosmic lead lines relatively low in the mix meandering around it. There is a very quiet start to 'Frequency .018'. Solar winds blow and little cosmic twitters fizz through the ether. It's very delicately done. Sounds are allowed to hang and disappear whilst others are slowly layered over each other but at no time does the sound stage appear cluttered. It's one blissful state of drift. Eleven minutes just seem to fly by- a difficult thing to accomplish with atmospheric music. At this point a rapid quite deep sequence comes in. We are still pretty much out in space but this is a more active region.

Things are still in other worldly mode for 'Solar Void'. The sequence starts to form in the eighth minute developing into quite a chugging one which takes us close to the finish. Is all this over indulgent? Of course it is! Some people will find that appealing others (who probably aren't at all into Klaus Schulze anyway) will find it a turn off. (DL)

We beginnen met de titeltrack en we moeten direct aan één bepaalde persoon denken: Klaus Schulze uit zijn 'Mirage'- periode. Als je dacht dat 'Berlin Impressions vol. 3' retro klonk, moet je dit eens horen! Het vorige album had meer gemeen met TD, maar dit en dan speciaal de eerste track, is nauwer verwant met Schulze. Een hoge twinkelende sequence sprankelt en muteert langzaam van het éne patroon naar het andere op de rug van mooie zachte kosmische tapijtjes. Meer melodische paden worden hierop gelegd en gedragen zich van tijd tot tijd als zachte sololijnen. Rond de elfde minuut verdwijnt de sequence kompleet en dwalen we rond in een prachtige atmosfeer, de klanken zijn uitstekend gekozen.

Rond de twintigste minuut wordt het wat donkerder en een uitstekende sequence maakt zijn intrede. Een kosmische sololijn, laag in de mix, draait hier rond. "Frequency .018" start heel stilletjes. Zonnewinden en fijne kosmische twitters zweven door de ether. Dit is heel gevoelig gemaakt. De klanken hebben de ruimte om op te komen en te verdwijnen, terwijl andere door elkaar gelaagd worden, nooit wordt het echter een warboel. Dit is een mooie voortgang. De eerste elf minuten schijnen voorbij te vliegen, een moeilijk iets om te volbrengen in de meer atmosferische muziek. Op dat moment komt er een snelle, vrij diepe sequence bij. Wij zijn nog altijd in de ruimte maar dan in een bedrijviger gedeelte.
