This disc slipped by me unnoticed when it was first released, but I'm glad to have recently discovered it. Current is Robert Solheim, and these 14 tracks are a cool assortment of melodic electronic music. 'Robin' is named for the little girl speaking on it, as light synths bounce around and get the disc off to a low-key but effective beginning. Punchy bass tones lend a dance sensibility to it.

'Ships In My Backyard' has a shuffling backbeat and more hip synth tones. Virtually every track is very relaxed and mellow, but even the most atmospheric tracks like 'Stellar' and 'Carpet Magic' have some kind of a beat running through them. Each piece is a gem, carefully conceived and orchestrated. 'Unknown Destination' has a steady rhythm and bright piano and could pass as a melodic Spyra track. 'Brightness' is just that, with a light sound and an upbeat mood and pace. Sparser, shorter tracks like 'Beginning To End' and 'Still Waving' are equally good, the former sounding somewhat like fellow Norwegian act Biosphere. There is an engaging playfulness and yet thoughtfulness throughout. No particular track stands out, but the sum is greater than the individual parts. Deze CD is mijn oog ontsprongen toen hij eerst uitkwam, maar ik ben blij dat ik deze toch nog ontdekt heb. Current is Robert Solheim en deze 14 tracks zijn een goed assortiment van melodische EM. "Robin" is zo genoemd naar het kleine meisje dat er in praat, de synthklanken spelen er rond en geven deze CD een effectief begin. Een deftige bas legt er iets of wat een dansgevoel in. "Ships in my Backyard" heeft een schuifelende beat en meer hippe synthklanken. Bijna alle tracks zijn heel relaxed en zacht en zelfs de meest atmosferische stukken zoals "Stellar" en "Carpet Magic" hebben een soort van beat op de achtergrond lopen. Elke track is uniek, voorzichtig ontwikkeld en georkestreerd.

"Unknown Destination" heeft een steviger ritme en een heldere piano en zou zo kunnen doorgaan voor een melodische Spyra-track. "Brightness" is wat de titel zegt, een heldere klank en een up-tempogevoel. Spaarzamere, kortere tracks zoals "Beginning to End" en "Still Waving"zijn vrij goed, de eerste hiervan heeft wat weg van Biosphere (ook van Noorwegen). Overal is er een gevoel van speelsheid en doordachtzaamheid. Er zijn geen tracks die er echt uitspringen maar het geheel is sterker dan de individuele tracks. Muzik is een collectie van erg goede melodische EM. (PD)
