Tranquillity
Deus Ex Machina

Frank Makowski is the man behind Tranquillity. His penchant for sequencing is clear so I've always approached his music with some expectation. With this latest release he continues the sequencing theme. I've listened to the album a few times and initially, though it's certainly a well presented album, nothing really grabbed my attention. After a while though some of the tracks do grow in stature which perhaps bodes well for the longevity of his music. The opener 'The Number of the Beast' has some great sequencer lines combined with tight drum rhythms. 'Straight to the Void' is 14 minutes of rhythmic textures which sounds very industrial at times, while 'The Logic of Love' returns to the sequencer dominated formula but it sounds slightly "thin" as if elements are missing. The final track 'Diary of a Workman' plods along without doing much (but perhaps that's the intention!).
Overall I feel I should like this album more, but ultimately I don't. (GG)
