I can't really say that this album didn't do anything for me because it did. It made me feel physically sick. All the shimmering sounds used really did make me nauseous. These sounds were extremely intense on the first track but continue through most of the album in one form or another. I suppose that there are many really inventive moments here and that some good sounds were used but unfortunately I was concentrating on my churning stomach too much. I've listened to the album twice and couldn't really listen to it again. I did ask our resident reviewer who is much more in tune with all things ambient than I am to review it but even he declined.
Some tracks like 'A Massive Glowing Three-axis Cross' had very little of the shimmers in it but even here it all came over to my ears as a bit of a mess. The best tracks for me were 'Radiating Blackness' which was rather dark but also very relaxing; 'Whole' which was slightly lighter and a good one to let your mind drift to and 'Holy' which was rather meditative. I am probably being extremely unfair on this album as I am sure many other people aren't effected by it as I am. The Stars End radio show in the States for instance has played it a lot and I'm sure they wouldn't if it got their listeners running to the bathroom. I have liked most of what I have heard from Markus Reuter very much - see my review of his 'The Longest in Terms of Being' album and you will see what I mean but physically as well as mentally I seem to be allergic to this CD. Please, if you like this album send me a review. I really want to be fairer to the CD than what I have printed here so if you are in tune with it please write to me with your opinions, as I would like to print another review of the album from a different point of view.
