Eclipse
Explosions as if heard from a distance is the choice of beginning for ‘Part One’ of the three part ‘Eclipse’. We also get what could be whooshes from a laser beam and out of this a high register sequence forms.. It is added to by a very deep bass thud and another sequence joins in weaving in and out of the first, often disappearing completely. The synth pads underneath sound like something from Klaus Schulze's Cyborg. From the elements described you might be expecting a Berlin School inspired album but that is not really what you get. Sure there are those references but there is also an Industrial edge that makes the album sound very different. Yet another sequence is added that sort of drifts above the others before replacing them. The opening sequence returns at about the fifteen minute mark and calm descends just before the end.

‘Part 2’ starts with a modulating metallic drone and the sound of a great generator, aliens jabbering around it. All rather Avant-Garde. Just before three minutes a bubbling sequence, again sounding like a generator, starts on its hypnotic path. All manner of effects including cosmic shimmers and sonar pings help it on its way and the occasional ‘guest’ sequence joins in. The whole image is as if you are in some vast power plant which at times doesn’t sound too well. Very weird indeed. ‘Part 3’ has almost pastoral beginnings, very different from what has gone before. Then we get the best sequence so far rumbling away in the background, it becomes more prominent and a delicate rhythm underpins it all. And that’s basically it, all the elements varying though the main sequence remains fairly constant. Very hypnotic stuff for sequencer nuts who also like a bit of weirdness thrown in. (DL)
