Morbius Electric Horizons Play: Lo-Fi   Mid-Fi   Hi-Fi   Download: Lo-Fi   Mid-Fi   Hi-Fi (Excerpt from track 'The Ever Pulsating Sphere') |
Samples to the fore on 'Earth Frequencies' are then nudged aside by wonderful synth expression as a searing vox hits home. A drifting collage takes the middle ground before being marshalled into order by a return to rhythmic splendour. 'Tomorrow Never Comes' continues the form with moog-bass backing a delightful lattice of percussion and samples. Melody is a fleeting reference, yet it's constantly bubbling under the surface to great effect. 'Beyond the God Source' opens with relatively foreboding effects before symbiotic rhythmic reflection enters the fray. The title track, which at 7:47 is the longest piece, lulls the listener into false comfort with yet another exemplary hi-hat network. Suddenly an explosive rhythm takes the initiative and sampled dialogue adds a touch of "craziness".The rhythms converge to complete a compulsive track.
'Star Groove' is an edgier, more hard hitting slab of electrolytic activity while 'Subconscious Dreams' spreads its wings over a heady concoction of oozing electronics. 'Trancemystify' offsets a chugging beat with full-on synth contortions, while the only thing predictable about 'Underwater Dreams' is the title. The delicate ripples of synth voices and complimentary oscillations are joined by a loose drum beat, while fascinating samples constantly punctuate proceedings as the tempo increases. 'Killing Time' changes tack again as scything electric guitar takes no prisoners. Finally we have the wonderful 'Vimana (Pearls in the Sky)' beauty in rhythmic form is matched only by the sublimely presented melodic pastiches.
Anyone hooked on the ambient-chill of Asana and Spyra will find this compulsive listening. Box it all off with great presentation and excellent sound quality and the result is yet another example of why CD-Rs provide such an effective vehicle for delivering top quality EM. (GG)
