(Excerpt from track 'FSP / Analogy')
We begin with 'Delta Transmission' by Ian Boddy which is a lovely rhythmic / pulsating number. At the beginning it is all rather trance like, notes swirling around all over the place. Half way in a driving rhythm enters which is guaranteed to get the body moving. I'm pretty sure this is a new track and if so it is the most accessible and commercial piece of music he has done in some time. I also think that the next track 'Analogy' by Free System Project is unique to this compilation. Dark waves of sound that could have come straight from TD 'Sorcerer' album ooze from the speakers, shimmering effects adding to the deeply uneasy feeling. FSP have always shown that they are first rate with sequencing and melodies but as I hear more it becomes obvious that in the drifting picture music department they have few rivals. Half way through a nice bass laden rumbling sequence bounds into action- all very mid 70's. As usual with FSP, a superb track.

'Lively Detached' by More (aka Ron Boots and friends) begins with infectious bouncy rhythm and sequences. A beautiful flutey lead line in played over the top. A plucked strings type lead then takes over from the flute but the melody is just as pleasing as before. The sequence becomes even more insistent and it becomes impossible not to let your body be carried away with it all, I certainly couldn't keep my legs still. The flute returns then another soaring synth line is introduced as the sequence and rhythms maintain the 'groove' up until the end- another cracking number. Next up we have Cosmic Hoffmann's 'Shiva Connection' reviewed in issue 57. Lambert's 'Spharenreise' is based around a rather relaxed plodding rhythm, initially backed by thick pads then we move to odd though rather appealing cosmic type sounds that are very much at contrast to the rhythm they are surrounding- a strange but intriguing one. 'Keller & Schonwalder & Friends' come up with a number called 'Die goeie ouwe tijd' which is rather relaxing with melodic pads and acoustic guitar. A gentle rhythm starts up and later an electric guitar is added but the whole thing is still very laid back, one to chill to. 'Elektronische Maschine' donates a live version of 'Power Maschine' a well named track for a typically bombastic blast with Kraftwerk influences- great fun! Finally we get a Steve Roach track 'Distant Signals' which couldn't be more of a contrast with its highly atmospheric washes of sounds and effects creating vivid picture music. Just when you are thoroughly absorbed by it however it finishes rather abruptly. Unfortunately all the CDs are like this.

This is a fine collection of mainly otherwise unavailable tracks from some very well known Electronic Music artists. (DL)
