(Excerpt from track 'Between Fiction & Reality')
Compact Disc / 7 tracks / 70.53 mins

'Deep Down Under' has a very quiet futuristic windswept beginning. A high hat rhythm starts up then a really chunky bass sequence gets louder and louder. A deep rhythm is added then another cracking one. Its a very powerful track brimming over with exciting pulsations. A virtual guitar lead line makes an entrance and this already superb track gets still better. 'Red or Blue' initially takes us into deep space with loads of electronic shimmers and sighing sounds. A distorted stuttering rhythm starts up then we get into a head nodding body moving groove with a heavenly piano melody providing very effective contrast. Its a catchy number and is extremely easy to get on with. The piano continues as we drift into 'Between Fiction and Reality' and what a truly beautiful minute it provided before it is submerged under more ominous rumbling atmospherics. Out of these rumblings hurtles another fantastic sequence. Mellotron sounds join it and swell to form just the right backdrop to the sequence. At this point its all very 70's sounding- even more so when a second sequence perfectly moves into position beside the first. Just close your eyes and let yourself go. High hat rhythms come in causing splashing sounds over the heaving maelstrom already created. An even stronger rhythm enters and the pace quickens still further. The track never stays still, mutating all the time but the feeling of power is retained right until the last minute or so when that superb piano line returns. Its an awesome piece.

For the first half of its duration superb atmospherics, hinting at brooding evil dominate 'Echoes From Another Dimension'. Initially the rhythm keeps trying to break through but is pulled back under the swirling shifting sea of sounds. A deep bass sequence then emerges. A melodic motif is repeated and as with the sequence adds to the 'picture music' quality of the piece. It is as if we are peeping into strange lands brought to life through our dreams. A bell like sequence gets 'Jules' Journey' underway. It is then joined my a no nonsense cracking rhythm. A really nice lead line is layered over the top turning it into yet another track which is so easy to get on with. It is melodic and optimistic but with a touch of the melancholy. A couple of minutes from the end a subtle virtual guitar gives the track even more umph but at the same time a delicate quality remains. Sequences, loops and rhythms again feature strongly on 'Perception of Time'. Even when the lead line enters at just under the four minute mark the track retains a very hypnotic quality. The rhythms etc hold a fairly constant pattern as all sorts of other happening drag the attention this way and that. At five minutes another sequence / loop and lead line are added and now we hurtle forwards at increased speed. We finish this brilliant album with 'Science'. A storm subsides and out of it emerges a melodic bell loop, restrained sequence and slow rhythm. Its all rather moody and laid back. The album is an ideal combination of power atmospherics and beauty. They don't put a foot wrong - highly recommended. (DL)
