The duo of Frank Specht and Gerd Weinekamp are behind Rainbow Serpent. I wish I could read German because the sleevenotes mention
Sequences, Zenith, Voyager and Derby March 1994 so perhaps they were at EMMA#1.
The 3 part title track occupies the first 32 minutes. Part 1 combines impressive spacey passages with bouncey sequences, and part 2
repeats the formula with the sequences being almost a modern interpretation of ‘Encore’. Part 3 is a brilliantly sequenced offering which
includes samples reminiscent of Michael Shipway. From Shipway we encounter music in the same class as Glyn Lloyd Jones with the next
track ‘Ancient Skies’. This really is a stunning piece with sumptuous sequencing and sublime melodics. And the quality music doesn’t end
there. The remaining pieces all have aspects to admire, uptempo in the main and covering an impressive variety of techniques with the
closing ‘Waiting for Kippenhahn’ being yet another stand out cut.
This album presents track after track of quality EM, with ‘Futuregate Part 3’ and the magnificent ‘Ancient Skies’ being particularly
memorable. Don’t miss out on this one. (GG)
