Back in smd37 Phil White wrote in to extol the virtues of this CD..... “one of my all time favourites”, “vastly underrated” and “containing a killer version of TD’s Love on a Real Train” were some of the comments. How could we resist?

First thing to say that this is firmly in ambient/modern territory. It’s “street cred” is unquestionable, however if this leads you to think that EM takes a back seat then think again. This album contains some of the most immense and impeccable EM you are likely to hear this year. Every single piece oozes class and meaning. The subtle rhythms are judged to perfection, the melodic motifs scream to be played over and over again. Each individual track is a time capsule of magnificence with tardis-like credentials containing so much wealth within fleeting minutes. The clock rhythm and piano detail on ‘14:31’, the delightful choral pads, the perfect electronic noises, the sweeps, the dynamics... the list goes on and on. Other tracks serve up beguiling vocal treatments, whispered effects, spoken collages.

Had the credentials remained at this level I’d be happy enough. However, tracks 7 & 8 transcend proceedings onto an even higher level. The first time I heard this brace of wonderment I could barely believe my ears. Bearing more than a passing resemblance to TD’s ‘Love on a Real Train’ they serve up sequential dynamics of the very highest order. Hypnotic, narcotic, bombastic and explosive - this is 14 minutes to simply revel in.

Phil White deserves much praise for switching us onto this. It is quite simply a sensational album. In fact, it’s so good I think I’ll buy an extra copy and get it cryogenically preserved for a future life. (GG)
