Endura
Great God Pan
|
I was beginning to think that Dave was going to keep all the Endura releases to himself. Then 'Great God Pan' dropped through the letterbox.
First thing to note is the packaging. The booklet is great, with lots of grim reaper imagery presented on parchment-like paper. The album was recorded between 1993 and 1996, with one of the tracks created during the Lunar Eclipse on 27th September 1996. These guys mean business!
Unsurprisingly to readers of Dave's previous Endura reviews, this album is packed full of dark matter. To be truthful I find it heavy going much of the time, but there is a big following for this type of "satanic synths" outing and it certainly evokes Gothic imagery. Titles such as 'From Sickening Skies', 'Sucking the Sour Wine' and 'Sperm of Metals' add to the overall atmosphere of foreboding which kept evoking imagery of Hammer Horror movies. Listen with the lights on, and stock up with sharpened stakes. (GG)
