A chilled relaxed rhythm joins a thick double bass groove and a wonderfully lazy electric guitar lead. Not EM sounding at all, more like something from a well cool jazz album! I actually love this sort of thing but wonder what the rest of you will think. About half way in the first real electronic sounds come in the form of a multitude of cosmic effects. We are now starting to sound more like a restrained Kraut Rock jam- Agitation Free coming to mind. We move on from the appropriately titled 'Enjoy Jazz' (and yes I did thanks) to 'The Grue Bleen Paradox'. Another relaxed lead line warbles around a plodding but fairly heavy beat. The rhythm then starts to dominate as rather strange splashing effects and unintelligible vocal samples are added. A sort of shuffling loop appears near the end. Experimental -yes, odd - certainly, enjoyable - you tell me!

'Pi Machine' gets into an almost funky rhythm over which cosmic effects twitter. Its all rather crackly like a warn out record. This is another piece which has a relaxed jazzy feel to it but now the emphasis is much more on electronic sounds and textures. Some of the later meandering lead lines are particularly effective and laid back. A bass dance beat gets 'Footer' underway. Again a cool groove is created though this time with a little more energy. More vocal samples are used to add detail but the main focus is on the hypnotic bass rhythm. 'Der Bergkonig' sort of growls into life then we get a jaunty little loop and what sounds like a car accelerating and decelerating- yup we're back to experimental territory though we do eventually settle into a fairly constant rhythmic pattern.

'Archer's Nocturnal Doubling' is full of beats and pulsations but at the same time is laid back. The sound of the accelerating / decelerating something is used again. A bass beat becomes more prominent. As the track progresses other loops and effects come and go. 'False Decodings' is based around metallic percussives to which more detail and cool loops and rhythms are added. Its a pleasant way to finish an album on which I enjoyed some tracks but it was also slightly too 'experimental' for me in places. (DL)

Nederlandstalige versie

Een relaxed chill ritme gaat samen met een dikke dubbele basgroove en een wondermooie elektrische gitaarsolo. Helemaal geen EM, meer iets van een vrij goed jazz album! Ik hou wel van dit soort zaken maar ben benieuwd wat jullie er van vinden. Half weg komen de eerste elektronische klanken naar voren in de vorm van een overdaad aan kosmische effecten. Nu klinkt het al meer als een Krautrock-jam – en dan denk ik aan Agitation Free. Van "Enjoy Jazz" (bedankt, dat deed ik) gaan we over tot "The Green Blue Paradox". Een sololijn dwarrelt over een vrij stevige beat. Het ritme begint te overheersen en vreemde effecten en een onverstaanbare stem worden toegevoegd. Tegen het einde horen we nog een apart loopje.

Experimenteel – ja, vreemd – zeker, aangenaam – vertel jij het me maar! "Pi Machine" heeft een bijna funky ritme met een boventoon van kosmische twitters. Het kraakt als een versleten vinylplaat. Dit stuk heeft ook een beetje een jazzy gevoel, maar de nadruk ligt nu toch meer op de elektronische klanken en bewegingen. De latere solo's zijn heel doeltreffend en ontspannend. "Footer" start met een bas dance beat. Ook dit heeft een goede groove maar met meer energie. Er worden ook stemsamples gebruikt maar de focus ligt toch op het hypnotische basritme. "Der Bergkoning" komt er aanrollen, ook met een klein loopje dat meer weg heeft van een vertrekkende en stoppende auto – ja, terug op experimenteel domein dus, doch alles komt tot een vrij constant ritmisch patroon.
