Spyra
Homelistening is Killing Clubs
The guy behind Spyra does seem to have a tangential and in many ways refreshing, approach to things as various elements of the sleeve graphics clearly display! Track-wise it’s ‘Zone’ time again, the 9 tracks being grouped into zones ‘01 - 03’. ‘ADSR Z’ gets this album off to an absolutely rivetting start, with commercial dance club rhythmics setting the pace for some fantastic electronic sequencing. ‘Inclined Plane’ is less “in yer face” but again it’s top notch in every way bringing to mind Asana or Alpha Wave Movement. ‘Peddigree Tribe’ is another rhythmic feast with pin sharp synth stabs which form a hugely enjoyable outing. The laid back and sublime approach takes centre stage for the large part of this album. To really appreciate the full depth available here you need to be in “chill out” mood. Rhythmics of opulent grace form mesmeric backdrops to some deceptively simple yet perfectly judged synth detail. Yet again Spyra have come up with the goods here. The whole album sounds so “street cred”, yet it should appeal to any fans of quality electronic music. Possibly of the three albums this one will be the least immediate, however I wouldn’t be without any of them. (GG)
