Hypnosphere are Lambert Ringlage and Wolfgang Barkowski from Alien Nature. 'Isolation Process' begins with some excellent dark drones that you can really get your teeth into. Pictures of an evil subterranean domain come to mind. The pads become more windy and metallic at around the five minute mark but it's still strange eerie stuff. A nice sequence starts up in the eighth minute, complimenting its dark setting well. Another sequence is added and a rather delicate melody initially nestles in the middle of the mix before becoming more prominent, mutating well as it goes along. It now has something of a Schulzian feel to it and becomes quite hypnotic. Other subtle melodic touches are added giving a rather dreamy effect. Gradually the sequences and lead lines increase in intensity exploding somewhat in the thirteenth minutes as leads flash over the top and pulsations start to spew from the speakers. 'Sleepwalk' also has a rather atmospheric beginning but this time the feeling is much lighter and peaceful. Very soon another excellent Berlin School type sequence bubbles through the mix, the surrounding pads becoming more strident. A no nonsense steady rhythm starts up adding to an already quite a complex mid paced but rather dense pulsating wall of sound. The lead lines in the second half have something of an axe man quality to them but they are kept in the middle of the mix thus giving the impression of pent up power. Ethereal effects and cosmic twitters shimmer over the top adding yet another dimension to an already wonderfully overloaded track.

More Schulzian lead detail is added within the last minute and a bit bringing things to a very satisfying conclusion. 'Hypnotic Fields' weaves a tapestry of hallucinogenic sounds then we enter a more conventional section of layered drones out of which, in the fourth minute, a fairly heavy shuffling rhythm emerges and the mood darkens considerably. This rhythm keeps coming and going leaving us in a sea of curious effects each time it departs. These effects seem to become more sinister even Hellish. It's the perfect soundtrack to a fevered nightmare. The nightmare continues as we drift straight into 'Anguish' on the back of some dark demonic type mumbling. Deep bass drones mix with cosmic twitters and effects until a sequence enters in the fifth minute. Even this is a rather strange one however as it distorts constantly fitting in with the delirious backing. Half way through the track it settles down to a more conventional mid seventies bass type sequence which gradually speeds up as the atmospherics try to drown it.

Another sequence comes to its aid and as before the sound becomes rather dense and complex as the drones and effects try and swamp the sequences which win out (just) in the end. Soft tones shine like the rays of a rising sun over a rumbling backing at the start of 'Trancelunar Drive'. Another excellent seventies type sequence emerges in the second minute but keeps disappearing then returning. Virtual guitar sounds soar over the top as the sequence finally decides it is here to stay and belts forward at quite a pace. The lead line does maybe get a bit OTT from time to time but overall this is an extremely powerful and unsubtle track. In the ninth minute things calm down and more sonic twitters and soft drones take over bringing us to a rather gentle close. (DL)

Nederlandstalige versie

Hypnosphere zijn Lambert Ringlage en Wolfgang Barkowski van Alien Nature. "Isolation Process" begint met uitstekende donkere drones waar je echt je tanden in kan zetten. Beelden van een slechtaardig onderaards domein komen naar boven. Het dikke tapijt wordt dan wat winderig en metaalachtig rond de vijfde minuut, toch nog steeds met een vreemd boosaardig gevoel. Rond de negende minuut start er een mooie sequence, perfect passend tussen zijn donkere omgeving. Er komt er nog één bij en een vrij gevoelige melodie nestelt zich in het midden van de mix alvorens deze zich meer naar voren plaatst.

Dit heeft wel iets van een Schulziaans gevoel en is vrij hypnotisch. Met nog meer melodie wordt het zelfs wat dromerig. Gradueel verhogen de sequences en de solo's in intensiteit zodat ze rond de dertiende minuut zowat exploderen. "Sleepwalk" heeft ook een vrij atmosferisch begin maar deze keer is het lichter en vrediger. Vrij snel komt er weer een uitstekende 'Berlijnse School' sequence opzetten, de omringende paden worden uitdagender. Een stevig ritme start en maakt de toch al stevige structuur tot een echte klankmuur. De solo in de tweede helft van het nummer hakt als een bijl maar wordt toch vrij goed in toom gehouden. Etherische effecten en kosmische twitters geven nog een andere dimensie aan dit wonderlijk overladen nummer. Op het einde komt er nog wat 'Schulze' bij, een einde met veel voldoening.

"Hypnotic Fields" weeft een tapijt van hallucinogene klanken tot we overgaan naar een meer conventioneel stuk met gelagerde drones. Rond de vierde minuut komt er een schuifelend ritme bij en wordt de stemming aanzienlijk donkerder. Het ritme blijft komen en gaan en laat ons telkens in een zee van vreemde effecten verblijven wanneer het verdwijnt. De effecten worden nog vreemder – blijkbaar komen ze recht uit de hel, de perfecte soundtrack voor je favoriete nachtmerrie. De nachtmerrie gaat nog verder met "Anguish" met zijn donker demonisch gewauwel. Diepe basdrones worden gemengd met twitters en andere effecten tot er rond de vijfde minuut een sequence bijkomt. Zelfs deze is vrij vreemd in combinatie met de achtergrond. Rond de helft wordt deze een vrij gewone mid-zeventiger sequence die geleidelijk aan versneld. Een tweede komt er bij en weer wordt er een klankmuur opgebouwd.
