The fifth album from the brooding duo of Ralf Knappe-Heinbockel and Thorsten Reinhardt displays that they can still find an edge which hits the
spot, yet they can also make the music accessible and approachable. The opener ‘Zombie Attack’ for example contains chugging rhythmics and
electric guitar which could easily be TD circa late 80’s. Somehow this all sounds so right. Huge resonating undulations and subliminal effects
plumb the depths creating an expansive vista on ‘Twilight Sleep’, while the 11 minute ‘Spiritual Tramp’ explores a jungle of electronics which is
occasionally pierced by synth riffs. ‘Pieces’ initially rides in on a wave of sequences, then takes stock and gathers itself for some more pulsating
sections broken up by short drifting interludes. The title track again displays a mastery of sonic synthesis straight out of the classic archives, while
‘Fool Grooves’ displays a more up to date air with laid back rhythms. ‘Galaxy of Terror’ is a very descriptive title for a positively frightening slab of
deep space ambience, while ‘The Promise’ continues the drifting fly-past of a desolate moon until the mid point heralds rhythms and eastern-tinged
synth leads. Finally ‘Sway’ combines acoustic guitar, superb synth pads and voice effects to produce a completely brilliant finish.
In every way this album is pure class. “Dark side”, 70’s retro and space music combined to perfection. (GG)
