This is yet another of the bands Paul Nagle is associated with: the other members being Phil Smillie and Andy Mason. Between the three of them they have concocted two albums of fantastic chill out music. Indeed these are some of the best compositions Paul Nagle has ever had a hand in (and that is saying something given his vast and varied catalogue). The agenda is set out straight away with 'Greig The Mouse Wanders In', a swirling psychedelic loop grabbing hold of the senses. The sounds chosen are so cool they draw you in like a moth to a flame. It's impossible to avoid your mind being captivated by the infectious pulsations.

Multi layered guitar tones add to the heady experience, being just shimmers of sound rather than licks as such. An equally cool rhythm joins the heady brew and the body is now taken over as well as the mind, moving to the beats all by itself. By the fifth minute the guitar playing is starting to gain more of an identity of its own, alternating lead duties with a little melodic synth motif. This is a completely awesome track that on first listening I repeated playing two more times before being able to move on. And it wasn't the only track on this album where that happened. When I eventually did manage to drag myself away to 'SubSeq 2' I was greeted with sonic shimmers and unintelligible vocal effects. A rhythmic loop and sequence are added and it wasn't long before we were again in a trance like groove. Little sonic shimmers act like spectres flying above. It is like being in a feverish but ecstatic dream. Some excellent guitar embellishments make the pulse race even faster. We get a slight interlude (not found on the PM mix) to our dream with 'Chum, Pal and Winalot – Snack' before continuing with an untitled track. It is a lovely piece of melodic laid back synth work with looped guitar backing- just lean back and chill. Get up again though for 'Beyond the Sofa'. Initially we are in relaxed contemporary Schulzian territory with gentle syncopations, over which float little touches of piano melody. Rhythms slowly start to build, the guitar being an integral element in a similar style to Manuel Gottsching from 'E2 – E4'. It isn't long before your body will once again be starting to move. Melodic motifs abound, shimmering over the top like little fizzes of energy.

Things get even more into a groove for 'A Wreck No Phobia', a loping Egyptian / Indian hybrid rhythm and melodies mixing with War of The World type sounds!!! A bass line adds that little extra depth and gradually we are drawn back deeper and deeper into our psychedelic, fevered, gyrating dream. Sequences strike up straight away for 'Grasping Jasper', the melody sounded faintly familiar but I couldn't place it. Damned fine whatever. The excitement builds as excellent guitar riffs are added. A rhythm nestles into the mix superbly and it wasn't long before my head was nodding and hands beating out time on the table. We get a short untitled atmospheric / melodic bridging section then we are into another track not found on the PM mix, 'Cinbaaad'. It's another body mover, but all too brief. 'Greig The Moose Wanders Off Again' is basically a continuation of the opener, packing just as much punch as in its first half. This whole album (and its sister album- read elsewhere) are essential for anyone into trance inducing melodic rhythmic music. (DL)
