Remember the highly enjoyable melodic sequencer based album 'Silent Mars' by Lakveet and Scab? If not why not? Buy immediately! Anyway this solo album by John Lakveet is just as enjoyable but with probably even more emphasis on sequences. The opener 'Circumvolito' for instance is straight into some really nice sequencer sounds- at least two lines developing and combining together. Nice deep pulses get the heart racing and feet tapping. A melodic loop is added acting as an extremely effective lead line but things are constantly shifting this way and that maintaining the excitement.

Many tricks of the trade are used including stripping the track down concentrating on the core elements then rebuilding. Its a superb track which has everything fans of Berlin School retro music could want. 'Mart Adictum' begins with- yes you guessed it, another sequence to which a second quickly joins it. The way the sequences combine forms a melody all of its own and when a laser sharp lead line starts to flash from the speakers it really takes no prisoners. If anything this is even more exciting than the first one, sequences being added to and taken away to keep you hooked then the fantastic leads just draw you in. Simply awesome!! 'Longanimiter' is the first track which initially takes a break from sequences beginning in atmospheric mode - a bit 'Encore'ish actually.

A gentle tinkling sequence does eventually come in accompanied by windy whooshes of sound but its really the atmospherics which take the main honours. 'Perispicio' is back to sequencer / strong melody territory initially combining rather strangely (or inventively depending on your point of view) but very quickly we settle down to a pleasing pattern and really start to motor. A couple of minutes later the current patterns subside and we rebuild with a different pulsating brew which gradually becomes more intense then strips down yet again this time to gentle melodic tinkling realms- then thud- in comes a lovely slow bass sequence. Another rapid one bounces into life beside it. The pace keeps changing, little touches added here and there right until the end. More ideas are used in one of John's tracks than on some other artists' whole albums. 'Sensifer' bubbles into life with a brace of sequences.

The lead lines are again razor sharp. Space is used cleverly to make the melodies stand out more. At the half way mark the sequences become more intense and really start to thunder- some of the sounds used near the end are simply brilliant - another cracker! 'Prodeambulo' rounds things off perfectly with an up tempo storm featuring heavy sequences and drums, my only complaint being that it is much too short! The running time of the album as a whole is a little disappointing but what there is is of such quality it would be a shame for it to put you off. (DL)

Herinner jij je het erg aangename melodisch sequencer gebaseerde album " Silent Mars" van John Lakveet & Scab? Neen, waarom niet? Meteen kopen! In elk geval is dit solo album van John even aangenaam maar legt nog meer de nadruk op sequences. De openingstrack "Circumvolito" start meteen met erg leuke sequencerklanken, minstens 2 gecombineerde evoluerende lijnen. Mooie diepe pulsen laten je hart versnellen en je voeten bewegen. Een melodische loop die zich gedraagt als een solo, wordt hieraan toegevoegd, maar de combinatie is steeds in beweging, zodoende de opwinding hoog houdend. Vele trucjes worden bovengehaald zoals de track afbouwen, enkel de kern behouden en dan alles terug opbouwen. Dit is een erg goed nummer waar alles in zit waar een "Berliner Schule" fan van houdt.

"Mart Adictum" begint met – je raadt het al - een sequence waar een tweede bijkomt. De manier waarop de sequences gecombineerd worden vormt een melodie op zichzelf, en als er dan nog een laserscherpe solo bijkomt wordt het helemaal te gek. ENORM!

"Longanimiter" is de eerste track die wat afstand doet van de sequences en begint vrij atmosferisch, een beetje als "Encore". Toch komt er sporadisch een twinkelende sequence bij, ondersteund door wat winderige klankjes. Toch is het het atmosferische wat hier op de voorgrond blijft. "Perispicio", terug sequences, sterke melodieën op een vreemde manier gecombineerd (of heel inventief naarmate hoe je het bekijkt), maar dan begint het prettiger aan te voelen en zijn we vertrokken. Deze patronen verdwijnen en andere beginnen zich op te bouwen, en dan weer andere…..en dan een trage bassequence, het blijft evolueren. Kleine veranderingen worden nog steeds toegevoegd en dit blijft zo tot het einde.

In één enkele track van John worden soms meer ideeën gebruikt dan op een hele cd van sommige andere artiesten. "Sensifer" begint meteen te leven met een ketting van sequences. De sololijnen zijn weer messcherp. Er wordt ruimte en rust gebruikt om de melodieën beter tot hun recht te laten komen. Rond de helft worden de sequences nog intenser, alles begint te bulderen – sommige klanken zijn zo briljant – weer een meesterwerk!
