(Excerpt from track 'Rysheara')
On the 13th/14th October 1995 David Wright performed two concerts at the London Planetarium, accompanied by guitarist Nik Smith. This smartly packaged CD contains highlights from the performances, and impressive highlights they are too. 'Landing' sets the scene with foreboding chords and dramatic drum rolls before 'Enchantress' takes over. This is an atmospheric piece which contrasts heavenly choirs with strange, almost aboriginal, effects and some well judged guitar elements. The excellent 'Rysheara' follows, for me the standout piece from 'Dissimilar Views' and here is it presented in much extended and remixed form with the added bonus of Nik Smith's guitar work. This is a beautifully flowing piece with a genuinely infectious melody. Superb. 'Images' offers a poignant theme picked out on string synths accompanied by delicate embellishments. 'London' adopts a lilting pace giving a feeling of purposeful travel, while 'Love Theme' picks out a relaxing motif with trumpet style timbres. 'Running Cloud' explores a variety of styles and sounds, with jerky rhythms rubbing shoulders with lush symphonics and thoughtful effects. 'Buffalo Run' presents fine rhythmics and an evocative motif full of life and imagery. 'Berlin' and 'Nomad' continue the sparkling form leaving 'Legend of the Tundra' to finish in spectacular fashion. This is a piece of quality workmanship from David Wright. Each track has been finely crafted and set perfectly to complement the album as a whole, producing what is possibly David Wright's finest release to date. Definitely worthy of investigation. (GG)
