If you like sonic picture music with loads of drones, hypnotic clay drum rhythms (sounding rather synthesized actually) and all manner of ancient flutes then this album is for you. TUU describe their music as psychoactive and I think this sums it up rather well (whatever it means!). The first track is full of exotic sounding flute played high in the mix. The next consists of some great atmospheric synth over heavily distorted vocal effects, low in the mix, like the edge of a dream, with some effective rhythm not forcing things but rather giving some structure which mutates superbly as the track progresses. With 'Kalpa Taru' things start to get very esoteric and I'm rather reminded of the wind blowing through a ghost town. More half heard vocal shimmerings introduce the title track, this goes on a bit too long for me but I am sure die hard Fathom label fans will love it. Imagine some of Steve Roach's more ethnic stuff but make it a hell of a lot weirder though that clay drum is again used to great effect. The sound of a gong heralds the start of 'Four Pillars', ghostly synth drones creating the image of a wind blown barren landscape. To close we have 'The Wheel', a very deep wooden flute growls out its presence which is replied to by another flute with all sorts of hellish goings on in the background. A great soundtrack for dead souls wandering the earth! To sum up I suppose this one should be for seasoned Fathom label followers only. (DL)
