(Excerpt from track(s) 'While My Filter Gently Sweeps')

CDR (Ltd Edition of 100) 4 tracks / 73.50 mins

This is the third in a series of Limited Edition CDs by the band and at the time of writing (August 2006) half have already gone. All the music is otherwise unavailable. 'Gremlins In The Desk' sets the scene with some excellent whooshing and twittering cosmic effects over some really 'out there' deep space drones. The combination of sounds is spot on. You just know that things are about to take off but when they do it is with real power and attitude as a rhythm and fantastic bass sequence combination thunder forward, snarling as they go. Wonderful melodic pads swell euphorically echoing the melody contained in the sequence. It is superbly effective, taking the level of excitement to new heights.

'While My Filter Gently Sweeps' has an even more brooding introduction than the opener. The initial sequence, another deep bass throb, is deployed even early than before. A second follows in its wake, spitting rapid note runs like multi coloured sparks flying from a firework. The lead line is initially quite restrained which is something that can't be said about the third sequence. It is so full of energy and joy, belting along over the top. Indeed it is the sequencing that takes the honours on this track, not really the leads. 'Synthetic Sphinx' meanders with just a hint of mystical Eastern phrasings. A no nonsense echoing pulse starts up through which flies the best and most melodic sequence on the album so far. The whole thing has a rather 'Ricochet' feel to it. Mellotron completes the classic formula. As the track progresses it becomes even more powerful than its mid seventies ancestor. Yet more devastating sequencer lines are brought into play. What a superb track this is.

'No Reservations' features Rob Clynes, the guitarist who helped make The Omega Syndicate's latest official album 'Apocalypse' so successful. This track however is over a year old so must have been one of his very earliest works with the band. At first the guitar is rather slow and mournful over suitably melancholy pads. A sequence breaks free in the fourth minute, battling with the guitar to become the main focus. The guitar becomes more ape but so does the sequence as they continue their dual. An even deeper sequence soon joins the fray and excitement builds to even greater heights and doesn't let up until the track's conclusion ten minutes later. The best Omega Syndicate Limited Edition so far. (DL)
