In many ways the style of this album is more like the first in the series, harking back to a rather Ashra sound. It is both subtle and carefully constructed but also with real bight and much more forceful than the rather mellow second album. Three of the four tracks are different parts of 'Hall of the Bourbon Lillies'.

Part One mixes soft floating 'misty' drones with percussive hissing stabs. Slow orchestral pads are then introduced giving proceedings a rather moody feel. It takes less than two minutes however for the first sequence to make its presence felt. Rather excellent it is too, building beautifully but without shattering the exquisite backing. Another sequence is added and I could just hear a rather faint organ type lead line. Every element is spot on. This is retro sequencer based music of the very highest order. By the sixth minute things are really starting to motor with the addition of some rather fine and perfectly placed rhythm. Two minutes later another more strident lead joins in the fun and the foot is put down on the accelerator even more.

Further leads come and go keeping things at fever pitch. They start to wind down in the eighteenth minute and we slowly fade to silence. A slow pulsing 5 note bass sequence / high hat combination gets Part 2 underway, melodic piano type melodies floating over it all. The different elements combine together to give a relaxed but slightly jaunty feel. Lovely lush analog backing swells in the seventh minute and the sequence subsides. It soon rebuilds however and another swirls around it. It still has immense 'attitude' especially when another sensitive lead plays over the top. The third part picks up the pace again as a rapid sequence spews from the speakers- wonderful! And it gets better, the sequence gaining even more oomph with little guitar touches (courtesy of Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock) fizzing like solar flares. They are not finished there however as a rhythm line is added to an already boiling brew. The guitar becomes a little more strident sounding like a dead ringer for Ashra at their most exciting best. Absolutely awesome! After eleven minutes we get a bit of a breather. What sounds liked some looped guitar similar to that on 'E2 E4' can be heard. It provides a little structure but mainly we are treated to a section of peaceful float.

This incredible album finishes with 'Bar Liquid'. A sequence (of course) emerges out of rhythmic percussion. The build up is quite slow, having a rather improvised feel. It becomes quite hypnotic, again having something of an 'E2 E4' feel. Once again Klaus provides guitar. My favourite CD from Fanger & Schonwalder so far. (DL)

Nederlandstalige versie

In verschillende opzichten is de stijl van dit album gelijkaardig aan die van het eerste album van deze reeks, dus terugblikkend naar een soort van Ashra-klank. Het is tegelijkertijd subtiel en voorzichtig gemaakt, toch echter ook met veel meer kracht dan het zachtere tweede album.

Drie van de vier tracks zijn verschillende onderdelen van "Hall of Bourbon Lillies". In het eerste gedeelte worden zachte 'mistige' tapijtjes vermengd met percussieve ruisklanken. Trage orkestrale paden brengen hier dan wat gezelligheid bij. Na minder dan twee minuten komt de eerste sequence tevoorschijn. Deze is uitstekend en op de achtergrond hoor je een zwakke (stille) orgelsolo. Elk element vraagt hier om aandacht. Dit is retro-sequencermuziek van de allerbeste kwaliteit. Rond de zesde minuut komt de motor echt op gang met een fijn en exact geplaatst ritme. Twee minuten later komt er een meer opdringerige solo bij, de vreugde vergroot en de voet wordt nog wat harder op het gaspedaal gedrukt. Er komen nog meer solo's bij en we stijgen naar een koortsachtige hoogte. We bouwen terug af rond de achttiende minuut en faden langzaam uit tot complete stilte.

Een trage pulserende vijf-noten-bas-sequence/hihat combinatie brengt "Part 2" op gang…hierover zweeft een melodische pianomelodie. Al deze verschillende elementen geven in combinatie een relaxerend doch zweverig gevoel. Weelderige analoge klanken zwellen aan in de zevend minuut en langzaam verdwijnt de sequence. Spoedig bouwt hij zich echter terug op, tezamen met een andere die hier rond kronkelt. Dit straalt kracht uit – zeker wanneer er zich een gevoelige solo over legt. Het derde stuk begint ook weer krachtig met snelle sequences die uit de luidsprekers spuiten – erg mooi! En het wordt beter en beter, de sequence wordt nog krachtiger en er komen mooie gitaaraanvullingen (van de hand van Klaus Hofmann-Hoock), zich bewegend als zonne- uitbarstingen. Hier stopt het nog niet want er komt nog een ritme bij…bij dit toch al bruisende geheel.
