Ian Boddy
The Uncertainty Principle
|
No, your eyes do not deceive you. We are offering this landmark Ian Boddy album at the unbelievable price of just £5.95. Any Ian Boddy album at that price would be a bargain, but 'The Uncertainty Principle' to many remains his finest hour so if you haven't got this yet, then be quick!
When this album was released in 1993 it did cause somewhat of a stir, with some EM luminaries heralding it as the finest ambient/EM cross-over album ever produced. Listening to it now it's easy to see where that sentiment came from. It still packs a potent punch to this day, though it is notable that because the ambient genre has moved on somewhat since its release, it does sound more like an out-and-out EM album now - which should be a definite plus point for many smd members!
So why is this album so good? Well, for a start there are over a dozen seamless track on show with not a duffer among them. And the breadth of styles is truly impressive, from bass crunching sequenced stompers such as 'Space Cadet' and 'Beyond the Event Horizon', atmospheric collages such as 'Interstellar Interlude No 1', to magnificent symphonic walls of sound the likes of which can be found on the spine tingling opening 'Times Arrow'. The way this track sets the scene really is colossal, and it remains a favourite of mine to this day.
Another impressive feature of this album is the dynamic sound quality. Played loud it really does rock, and the combination of digital and analogue equipment used on the album has acres of headroom to explore and Ian uses the scope to its full potential.
If you haven't tried anything by Ian Boddy yet, then there's no better place to start than this. At full price this album is a bargain, at this price it's a give-away. (GG)
