'The Catalyst' is a rather urgent track. Intense beats emerge out of cosmic effects and futuristic vocal samples. The rhythmic loop does have a slightly ethnic feel to it but at the same time sounds very contemporary- cyber tribal if you like. I can just imagine survivors of some alien post apocalyptic race dancing around a shrine. 'Cryosleep' lasts over half an hour and is split into four parts. The first 'Preparation' uses a rather high register drone which sounds more like the hum of a large transformer as its base. There is a faint rhythm but its rather subtle initially being partly obscured by the drone. As the track progresses however it does make its presence heard. The occasional gong strike adds some detail. The second part 'Running into a Dream' strips things down, the rhythmic loop continuing whilst the drone disappears. The gong becomes more strident and shuffling effects are added providing a sort of percussive rhythm which combines inventively with the increasingly confident continuing beats. Its now all rather hypnotic.

The third part 'Holy Man' follows in a similar pattern but with the addition of some heavily distorted chants and vocal samples in a similar style to the opener. The rhythmic loop changes increasing in intensity. Its a superb track full of umph but with a real mean / wicked edge to it. To start off with 'Alien Particles' calms things down a bit but its still damned cool. From the half way mark things work themselves back up into something of a frenzy however. The final track 'Life Eternal' is dedicated to Oskar Sala, musician and musical inventor of 'My Fascinating Instrument' fame who died earlier this year. Its fittingly serene and strangely though beautifully melodic with a sort of haunting quality to it. In the third minute we move into a collage of solar wind sounds out of which another cyber tribal type rhythm emerges. More vocal samples emerge talking about eternity and mortality. They add to the track and aren't too intrusive adding a bit more mystery to proceedings before gently fading away like a dream. Metallic shimmering drones give a little bright colouring whilst deep growling bass rumbles add some menace at the other side of the sound spectrum.

To finish everything dies away except a low throb as if coming from the very bowels of the Earth. This is a worthy addition to the vast Fax label catalogue. (DL)

"The Catalyst" is een snelle track. Intense beats komen naar boven uit een mengsel van kosmische effecten en futuristische stemsamples. De ritmische loop heeft een licht etnisch gevoel maar klinkt toch soms erg van deze tijd - cyber-tribal dus (?). Ik kan me voorstellen dat er overlevenden van een vroeg-pre-apocalytische race aan het dansen zijn rond een altaar. "Cryosleep" duurt meer dan een half uur en is opgesplitst in vier delen. Het eerste "Preparation" gebruikt een hoge drone die meer klinkt als gezoem van een grote transformator. Er is een zacht ritme, maar dit wordt grotendeels verduisterd door de drone. Als de track verdergaat wordt zijn aanwezigheid duidelijker. Af en toe brengt een gong wat detail. Met het tweede gedeelte "Running into a Dream" verdwijnt de drone en blijft de ritmische loop achter. De gong komt meer naar voren en muterende effecten worden toegevoegd. Dit zorgt voor een soort percussief ritme dat een heel mooie combinatie vormt met de vertrouwde beats. Dit wordt nu wel erg hypnotiserend. Het derde gedeelte "Holy Man" volgt een gelijkaardig patroon maar dan met toevoeging van erg vervormde stemmen en gezangen, gelijkaardig aan die van de openingstrack.
