Lately there has been a plethora of outstanding releases, but I suppose its inevitable that you have to take the rough with the smooth and this
album falls firmly into the “rough” category. To describe this as poor man’s Kraftwerk only scratches the surface of its inadequacies. It is so poor
that really its only redeeming factor is that it only lasts a shade under 43 minutes.
The opener ‘Tanzen Mit Computer’ plumbs the depths of predictability with mundane rhythms and sequences backing a dreary monotonal German
voice-over. At least ‘Die Verfurüng’ dispenses with the vocals, and the main theme is largely acceptable, but the whole thing is so half cooked and
lifeless - it’s as if the artists are afraid of doing anything remotely exciting.
‘Tanz 86’ is so “formula” that I think even Mystic Meg would get a feeling of deja vu on first hearing, a sentiment which can be aimed at the majority
of the remaining 8 tracks.
If I were to list “bottom 10 of 97” this would be down there with the worst of them. (GG)
