Palantir
Refuge in Fantasy
|
Palantir's music is inspired by Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings', and here he presents a dozen tracks designed as a refuge from modern day living. 'The Garden' opens gently with piano and laid back percussion accompanied by constant birdsong, while 'Orange Dream' contains busy sequences and a variety of motifs. 'The Waters of Life' utilises droplet effects and careful melodies which build to portray a stream's journey to the 'Ocean' which follows, a brooding track with whale song, aquatic rumblings and flutey motifs.
Fast forward a few tracks and we come to a real gem in the form of 'The Flight' which features pulsating sequences backed by searing synth lines. The only slight disappointment is its brevity (just under 4 minutes). 'Falling Down' is an atmospheric interlude leading to 'World in my Head' which is notable for a fantastic closing couple of minutes with a blitz of sequences and raw synth sounds. 'Time Loop' and 'Elapsed Time' close the album with simple, yet effective themes. (GG)
