The first batch we had sold out even before I had time to renew it. These private releases are often difficult to re-stock but I have just a few more. I don't know how long they will last. The band describe it as 'the missing link between 'Borrowed Atoms' and 'Planets in the Wires''. It's a very accessible album combining spaced out sections like on 'Startide' with sequences as good as anything on the two albums mentioned above.

Part One begins with a ticking sequence and spooky sounds, some of them from keyboards, others coaxed from electric guitar. This is wonderful eerie stuff- swamps at night, that sort of thing. Mellotron sounds and cosmic percussion are added at just the right time. In the twelfth minute the first proper sequence starts up and it's a cracking melodic one, with a hint of sonar blips about it, set in a wash of more wonderful mellotron sounds taking me straight back to TD's 'Encore'. It's delicate and uncluttered, each element of the whole being heard to full effect. The sequence becomes more complex and a slow repeated lead line adds wonderful detail over the top. Then in comes the guitar and absolutely wonderful it is too, gentle cosmic licks playing with the sequence. Additional sequences are deployed in the twentieth minute then the guitar comes back, more strident than before. It's not exactly axe man stuff but there are plenty of rapid note runs echoing into the distance - bloody fantastic!

With three minutes to go we return to the cosmos and float into Part Two. Immediately we have a more ethereal feel with wordless choir effects (the mellotron again?) but there is also a slightly darker twist to proceedings. Distant bass rumbles can just be heard. The guitar returns with some relaxed noodlings. These are replaced by organ sounds, eventually mixing with and then being replaced by more Tron. In the ninth minute another sequence gradually rises to the surface. Only a few seconds later another joins it. The pace remains slow. Guitar is added in the fourteenth minute and again it's spot on providing a spellbinding lead line. A minute or so later the sequences start to become more strident and the guitar ups the anti but then just as suddenly vanishes and the mellotron takes more of a prominent role. In the nineteenth minute we get another sequence and guitar combination then a rhythm is added. It's quite complex with lots going on but the band is still well in control, this isn't manic mayhem. The guitar and another lead line dual with each other for a while and the sequences are also cranked up providing the most in yer face section on the CD so far; pretty damned awesome it is too!

The only downer to this album is the packaging - even more basic than the previous private releases. The music however can't be faulted. (DL)

Nederlandstalige versie

De eerste voorraad die we hier van binnen kregen was uitverkocht nog voor ik de kans kreeg deze te bespreken. Bij deze persoonlijke uitgaven is het dikwijls heel moeilijk om een tweede voorraad van binnen te krijgen maar deze keer hebben we er weer een paar. Ik weet echter niet voor hoelang. De band zelf beschrijft deze cd als de ontbrekende schakel tussen 'Borrowed Atoms' en 'Planets in the Wires'.

Dit is een heel toegankelijk album dat 'space-toestanden' zoals op 'Startide' combineert met echt lekkere sequences zoals op de twee eerder vermelde albums. "Part One" begint met een klikkende sequence en spookachtige klanken, de éne van keyboards, de andere van elektrische gitaar. Dit is mooi angstwekkend materiaal, recht uit een nachtelijk moeras. Mellotronklanken en kosmische percussie worden net op het juiste moment ingebracht. Rond de twaalfde minuut begint de eerste 'echte' sequence en die is meteen geweldig melodisch, verrijkt met een aantal bleepjes en geplaatst in de bekende Mellotronklanken, het gaf me direct een 'Encore-gevoel'. Heel delicaat en ongecomplicerd, elk element wordt klaar en duidelijk gehoord. De sequence wordt dan complexer en een trage repeterende solo drijft dit nummer ten top. Dan komt de wondermooie gitaar erbij die tezamen met de sequence kosmische licks speelt. Rond de twintigste minuut komen er nog sequences bij en ook de gitaar verschijnt terug, meer overheersend dan ervoor. Ze zetten er niet direct de hakbijl in maar een aantal snelle noten maken dit toch echt fantastisch!. Met nog drie minuten te gaan keren we terug naar de kosmos en vloeien over in "Part Two". We starten direct met een etherisch gevoel en woordloze kooreffecten (terug de Mellotron?), doch is dit donkerder dan daarvoor. Ook wordt er een ver diep basgerommel gehoord. De gitaar keert heel ontspannen terug en wordt verder vervangen door orgelklanken, af en toe gemengd met en vervangen door meer Tronklanken.
