This is one great shimmering mass of peacefulness. It's a similar concept in many ways to Steve Roach's 'Slow Heat' and 'Darkest Before Dawn' albums. A sound environment is created for one to luxuriate in, an aural equivalent of having a deep hot bath if you like. Just enjoy it, let the brain switch off and the subconscious wander where it will. Inevitably the mind in drawn toward the front cover image of what looks like a tropical forest. The shimmering drones made me think of heat hazes and humid atmospheres. I would say though that there is more use of very subtle melody here than on the two albums I have mentioned above.
This is created through, from time to time, some drone progressions standing out amongst the general sonic carpet as having an identity of their own, forming the faintest but most agreeable of structures. You could play me any section of this album though and I wouldn't be able to tell you from where on the CD it came. There seems to be much movement in the elements that go to make the whole but the actual resultant sound or feel stays pretty much constant throughout. Trying to describe the music further is fairly pointless. It's there to be experienced and enjoyed when the moment is right. On a final note it's really rather refreshing for the text with the disc to remain fairly basic, not trying to make it seem something more than it really is. There is the confidence here to let the music do the 'talking' for itself. (DL)
Dit is één grote massa schemerige rust. Een gelijkaardig concept als 'Slow Heat' en 'Darkest Before Dawn' van Steve Roach. Er wordt een klankomgeving gecreëerd om in te verblijven, vergelijkbaar met het nemen van een heet bad, zoals je wilt. Geniet hiervan, zet je hersens uit en laat het onbewuste zijn vrije loop. Op het boekje staat een foto van een tropisch regenwoud, denk ik en de schemerige drones deden me denken aan hittegolven en een vochtige atmosfeer. Ik denk dat er hier ook meer beweging in de melodie zit als op de twee hiervoor aangehaalde albums.
Dit komt tot stand doordat sommige drones zich van tijd tot tijd op de voorgrond plaatsen, alsof ze een eigen identiteit hebben, en alzo dus een afstandelijke maar aangename structuur creëren. Je kan mij enkele stukken van deze CD laten horen, ik zal echter niet kunnen vertellen waar ze zich op de CD bevinden. Er schijnt heel wat beweging te zitten in de verschillende elementen, toch geeft de hele CD een uitgesproken gelijkaardig gevoel. De muziek proberen te omschrijven is vrij onzinnig, deze dient enkel om ervan te genieten op het juiste moment, zoals ook vermeld in het boekje, er wordt niet meer achter gezocht. Er is het vertrouwen om de muziek zijn werk te laten doen, op zichzelf. (DL)
