This album has been out of print for some years now and was exchanging hands amongst collectors for up to £50 a copy so it is a welcome re-release by the Manikin label (who were also responsible for the re-issue of 'Live' and the 'Moondawn Original Master'). First released in 85 it does contain some of the 'Drive Inn' type rhythms, being much more prevalent than sequences. The lead lines have a rather laid back jazzy feel in the first track 'On the Edge' and I can just imagine it accompanying the ancient computer game Out Run. The second number 'Colours in the Darkness' sounds just like a remix of a 'Drive Inn' track (though without playing that album I can't remember which one). 'The Beat Planante' has more strident, hypnotic rhythms but somehow still feels very relaxed. Finally we have the title track (24.49 mins) . Great bubbly cosmic start then a couple of delightful sequences are introduced, one high register and the other of the bass variety. The lead line plays over the top. This is by far my favourite track on the album. At the five minute mark we get kettle drums making a presence and then after another minute a more conventional rhythmic backing. At the eleven minute mark we get a bit of a break from the main rhythm though the kettle drums are given a good work out. Before long the main rhythm comes back afresh and the sequences are brought higher in the mix. This pattern of the rhythm fading away and coming back is repeated for the rest of the track and stops proceedings becoming monotonous. (DL)
