This is the third release on the Databloem label. Again we have something which sounds genuinely new but not too difficult to get on with, though it does help to approach it with an open mind. We begin 'Knockoff Spice' in virtual silence. Indeed it's almost half a minute before you don't have to strain your ears to pick up the sound. We get breathy pads combining with darker drones. A rather cool shuffling rhythm then comes in embellished by some great little melodic touches. It's an excellent opener, clever but also extremely easy to get on with.

'A Lonely Hill' starts with rhythmic bell chimes. A stuttering beat is then taken up getting into quite a groove. There are little touches of electronic colour here and there but plenty of space is left for the rhythm to shine rather than being cluttered. It gets under the skin. My head nodded in time to the relaxed beat, soothing away the stresses of the day. Twittering electronic shimmers get 'Incidental Underwater Adventure' underway, then a curious quirky rhythm starts up and as with the previous numbers it is left to dominate with supporting sounds and little melodies just adding colour here and there. 'Tsuyu' is another one with a quiet beginning. Its all rather floating, just little touches of sound echoing into the distance. It's only in the third minute that a structure of sorts starts to form. It lasts for about three minutes then we enter another sparse relaxing section, just the odd sound here and there. We return to the curious rhythm which gradually mutates into bell tones taking us to a gentle finish.

The title track returns us to cool shuffling rhythms, touches of sound and subtle melody glistening over the top. 'Camera Dub' pretty much follows on in a similar mood and style to its predecessor though the melodies are more prominent especially as we near the end. 'Mad Sushi' again makes use of high-pitched bell tones out of which a quite bass heavy infectious lazy rhythm emerges and apart from a break in the middle where we return to atmospherics it hangs around for most of the track. A similar pace continues through to 'Food Poisoning' though rhythmically it didn't really do anything for me and I found it rather monotonous.

'Coldest Sleep' was much more appealing, quirky rhythms combining with slightly spooky sounds to good effect. '6 Tatami Mats' is almost comical in a rather funky sort of way. I couldn't help smiling and letting my body go with the rhythm- loved it! '2 Days' begins with a weird collage of distorted sounds mixed in a nightmarish way out of which soft but rather mournful pads emerge. In the third minute all this is replaced by the sound of running water and more melancholy textures. A fascinating album indeed. (DL)

Dit is de derde uitgave van het Databloem label. Weer hebben we iets wat vrij nieuw klinkt, maar toch niet te moeilijk is om er in te komen, het helpt echter wel als je je geest ervoor openstelt. We beginnen "Knockoff Spice" met een virtuele stilte. Het duurt inderdaad meer dan een halve minuut vooraleer je oren het eerste geluid oppikken – eerst ademende paden en donkere drones. Een vrij koel ritme komt opzetten, vergezeld van enkele mooie fijne melodische toevoegingen. Een uitstekend begin, ingenieus gemaakt en ook gemakkelijk om er in te komen.

"A Lonely Hill" start met ritmische belgeluiden, dan een stevige beat en het evolueert tot een echte groove. Hier en daar zijn er wat elektronische klanken maar er blijft genoeg ruimte over om het ritme alle plaats te geven. Mijn hoofd knikte mee op de relaxte beat en deed me alle stress vergeten. "Incedental Underwater Adventure" begint met hoge elektronische klanken, dan komt er een vreemd ritme bij en ook zoals in het vorige nummer domineert dit, over andere zwevende klanken, enkel wat melodie brengt hier en daar wat variatie.

"Tsuyu" begint ook erg rustig, heel zwevend met hier en daar wat echoënde klanktoevoegingen. Het is maar eerst in de derde minuut dat er wat structuur gevormd wordt. Na nog eens drie minuten gaan we verder met de relaxatie, enkel met minuscule klankverschillen. We keren terug naar het vreemde ritme en dit muteert langzaam naar belklanken – erg goed. "Camera Dub"blijft in dezelfde stemming hangen doch met een ietsje meer melodische inhoud, vooral dan tegen het einde aan. "Mad Sushi" maakt weer gebruik van de hoge belklanken, alsook van veel atmosfeer. Ook een gelijkaardig gevoel bij "Food Poisoning" doch ritmisch trok mij dit niet erg aan, ik vond het ook vrij monotoon.
