This 1994 album sees solo musician Michael Gross present ten tracks of sophisticated EM which will captivate many. The 7 minute 'Running on Oxygene' opens and immediately it's apparent that we are in for an enjoyable ride. Sequences aplenty and a pounding ambient rhythm take centre stage followed by a pleasing melody. Actually it doesn't sound that much like JMJ though the title would suggest otherwise. 'Chips on Spliff' opens like a Michael Garrison sequential chugger, and the laid back air and slick keyboard work characterise many of the tracks which follow. 'The Last T-Rex' and 'Slow Colours' combine piano and sequential rhythm beautifully, while tracks such as 'Falcons Flight' simply underline the class of this artist.
This album is easy to get on with, yet stands up to close scrutiny. The similarity to Rob Essers' 'Raincolors' is not limited to the title. Definitely one to try out. (GG)
