Tangerine Dream

Whereas in my last TD review I admitted that I was progressively more at a loss about what to say about TD releases, here I really don't know where to start. Just in case you don't know what's on this album, it's a recording of TD's 1982 appearance in Sydney Australia, where the lineup was Froese, Franke and Schmoelling. To be more precise it's "Part 1" of their concert at the Regent Theatre on 22nd Feb 1982. Five tracks are featured - 'Convention of the 24', 'White Eagle', 'Ayers Majestic', 'Logos Part 1' and 'Bondy Parade'. Tracks 3 and 5 are, I believe, not on any other (official) album.

To sit and listen to this now it really does underline how sensational TD were in the live setting. The sequences are fantastic and never less than enjoyable, however what really shine are the melodies. Put the likes of 'White Eagle' and 'Logos Part 1' almost back to back and it beggars belief. Sound quality is as good as can be expected considering the age. Clean and punchy, relatively few dropouts, and infinitely better than the 'Leprous' / 'Dreaming' bootlegs. Slightly less good news is that it has been given a smattering of overdubs, most noticeably on 'Logos', but I have to say this doesn't detract from the overall experience too much.

OK, in the days of 80+ minute CDs a touch over 42 minutes does seem a little miserly, but never mind the width - feel the quality. Roll on part 2. (GG)
