Mind Projects
States of Mind
The title track opens with a relaxed rhythm combined with a really lovely melody which fades then comes back with renewed vigour as the drums make an entrance. This is a very well constructed track, as accomplished in the tunes department as it is in rhythmic content. The next track ‘Visions’ reminded me a bit of N Force. On to ‘Desperation' which is a good atmospheric track with some astonishing bass rumbles. ‘REM Dreams’ cranks up the rhythm again and takes us to ‘Tension’. Amazing use is again made of bass rumbles, the title correctly describing the uncluttered way the track is allowed to just hang there thus allowing the atmosphere to build. ‘Religion’ yet again goes to demonstrate Mind Project’s complete grasp of rhythm, melody and ambience. Not only are all three elements of a very high quality but it is the masterful way they are combined together which is most impressive. This is my favourite track on the album. ‘Worldly Escape’ continues the formula but ‘Freedom’ is something of a departure with female singing at the beginning and in the middle. Now I have heard EM tracks where vocals have fitted perfectly, unfortunately this is not one of them- awful I’m afraid. This is a real shame as the underlying music is again of very high standard. ‘Spirit Vibes’ brings the album to a close beautifully with delicate pulsations and wonderful chords painting the most vivid pictures. A lovely rhythmic but understated album - as long as track eight is programmed out that is. (DL)
