Brainwork
Sunrise
|
Rather strangely described as "the status quo of his collected musical ideas" this is Uwe Saher's (aka Brainwork) first album, released in 1991. Whereas later albums such as 'Back to the Roots' and 'Melody & Ambience' follow a particular theme, 'Sunrise' is an excellent opportunity to hear Uwe's ideas in their raw form.
All tracks are in the three to six minute bracket and most have rhythmic foundations. The opening pair 'Dreaming' and 'Sunrise' are both excellent examples of Brainwork in more laid back mode with infectious melodies featuring prominently. The more uptempo side is also served up in style with tracks such as 'Driving' and 'Moving Clouds' certainly providing a wealth of aspects to admire. It doesn't all come off, for example the samples in 'Human Beat' still make me cringe, however this is very much the exception. 'Musical Clock' contains some great sequences and a wonderful chiming theme while 'Dance of Dolphins' shows more classical leanings. 'The Walk' really is a superb track with synth pads forming a punchy melody backed by sequences which build throughout the track and this form is maintained during all the later tracks with 'Afternoon' being particularly notable.
This is another fine album from Brainwork both in terms of variety and quality. If you are new to Brainwork's music, this is as good a place to start as any. (GG)
