Had a busy day and just want to relax? This CD is ideal. Imagine looking out at a rainforest and experience the way it changes during the day as the weather conditions slowly alter. These are the visions that this album attempts to create in the mind and succeed it most certainly does. The CD is completely devoid of rhythm and any melodic content is extremely subtle mainly created by the ever shifting multi layered pads.

Float is the order of the day. Throughout there is a feeling of moisture; the form this takes, rain, mist, steam or whatever varying from track to track. For instance the opener 'Raingardens' made me think of a stifling hot but very humid climate where steam rises from the forest floor. Insect noises can be discerned from time to time but they are on the edge of hearing. When combined with some gentle percussive wind chime type effects they conjure up the feeling of a delirious heat haze. Near the end of the track the pads become more intense creating tension. The heat haze continues through into 'Pond Life'. The use of delicate percussive sounds is increased, like water dripping from the trees and the sound of insects is slightly more prominent. 'Cedars Stand against the Rain' has a similar feeling to the earlier track but hardly surprisingly sounds even wetter.

'Mist' is the most tranquil of a very laid back bunch. By now you should be supremely relaxed or more likely you will have been asleep for half an hour already. (DL)

Nederlandstalige versie

Had je een drukke dag en wilde je wat relaxen? Dan is deze CD ideaal. Stel je voor dat je naar het regenwoud kijkt en ondergaat hoe dit gedurende de dag verandert, terwijl de weerscondities traagjes variëren. Dit beeld probeert het album te verwezenlijken in je geest en slaagt er nog in ook.

Ritme is compleet afwezig en de schaarse melodische aanwezigheid wordt enkel in stand gehouden door de altijd in beweging zijnde multilagige tapijten. Zweven is aan de orde van de dag. Er is een algeheel gevoel van vochtigheid, in de vorm van regen, mist, stoom, of wat dan ook, elke track anders. De openingstrack "Raingardens" bijvoorbeeld deed mij denken aan een verstikkend heet maar vochtig klimaat, waar stoom uit de bosgrond komt. Af en toe hoor je wat insectengeluiden, op het randje van het gehoor. Gecombineerd met wat zachte windbelletjes versterken ze het gevoel van de waanzinnige hittenevel. Tegen het einde van dit nummer worden de paden intenser en bouwen ze spanning op.
